How I made $3,200 last month doing AI training on the side

A breakdown of every platform I tried, ranked by $/hour and how fast they pay out.

I started in February with zero experience. Just a laptop, a CS degree in progress, and the suspicion that 'AI trainer' jobs were paying more than the internet was admitting.

Three months in, I've worked across six platforms. Some are gold. Some are scams in trench coats. Here's the actual breakdown.

Outlier.ai — $35-50/hr, pays weekly, work whenever. Probably the best ratio of pay to friction. Approval can take 2 weeks though.

Handshake AI Fellowship — Up to $100/hr but requires a real interview. Pays biweekly. Worth applying to even if you doubt yourself.

Scale AI / Remotasks — $15-25/hr, more available work, lower bar. Good if you need cash this week, not great long-term.

Across the three I actually stuck with, I clocked roughly 80 hours and pulled $3,200. Not life-changing, but it covered rent and groceries with room to save.
